My letter to the White House
My day began listening to NPR as I drove to work and heard, among other news, that a Republican Pennsylvania State Senator (John Eichelberger) told a Philadelphia radio audience that our society is “allowing” gay people to exist. Eichelberger’s pushing a bill to amend the Pennsylvania Constitution to ban same-sex unions. If this is not hate speech and a tacit incitement to (continued) violence against people within the LGBT community, I do not know what is. I fantasized that the President I so admire and voted for and his justice department would smote the ignorant monster dead (metaphorically speaking) - and then remembered the Justice Department’s recent (outrageous) filing in support of DOMA. There are no more words for the despair and weariness I feel after 61 years (36 of them with my life partner) of enduring this type of hate and injustice. It’s of no consequence to the Democratic party I am sure but I will not be responding to the third fundraising email of the week - chalk it up to weariness.
