Long two years.
I cried when Obama won the election. So happy, so proud to be an American. It’s been mostly bad since then. I guess I underestimated just how ugly and ignorant it would get. I know it is the last desperate gasp of those who believe themselves to be God’s chosen elite - a pathetic delusion, in any event; it’s rich people who rule - but it is painful and discouraging to be living...

No contribution necessary; you can just sign the “petition.” Please do … lobbyists and the politicians they’ve funded (Democrats and Republicans) are working very hard to defeat this effort.

My letter to the White House
My day began listening to NPR as I drove to work and heard, among other news, that a Republican Pennsylvania State Senator (John Eichelberger) told a Philadelphia radio audience that our society is “allowing” gay people to exist. Eichelberger’s pushing a bill to amend the Pennsylvania Constitution to ban same-sex unions. If this is not hate speech and a tacit incitement to (continued) violence...

Some Under-Reported and Moving Excerpts from...
For you remind us that in the end, human destiny is not determined by forces beyond our control. You remind us that our future is not shaped by mere chance or circumstance. Our history has always been the sum total of the choices made and the actions taken by each individual man and woman. It has always been up to us. *** And it’s a story written by so many who are no longer with us, like...

Gay marriage, I am so against it because all my gay friends are out. And if they get married, it will cost me a fortune in gifts.

An Interesting Theory
Someone posting at afterellen.com had an interesting theory about this season of the L Word, and the ending:
This whole season was Jenny’s movie. It was Alice’s treatment; about a cop trying to solve a murder. Jenny doesn’t really die. That’s why they are all smiling at the end.
I like this theory, and will believe in it, even if it’s not true.

Our Mutual Joy
My friend the priest James Martin says his favorite Scripture relating to the question of homosexuality is Psalm 139, a song that praises the beauty and imperfection in all of us and that glorifies God’s knowledge of our most secret selves: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” And then he adds that in his heart he believes that if Jesus were alive today, he...

Register. Vote!!
from MSNBC… A new poll by NBC, the Wall Street Journal, and MySpace provides further evidence that the number of new voters who turn out on Election Day could very well decide the presidential contest. According to the survey, new and lapsed voters (those who didn’t vote in 2004) back Obama over McCain by a 2-to-1 margin, 61%-30%. If you take the Bush (62 million) and Kerry (59...
